At BC Academy | British Curriculum International School and Nursery, we recognise that food is far more than just a source of essential nutrition – it is an integral part of a child’s overall well-being. We believe that healthy eating habits established in childhood can significantly impact a person’s health, happiness, and quality of life. Our approach to health and nutrition is rooted in the belief that adults, including staff and parents, serve as role models, supporting children in making balanced dietary choices.
We understand that mealtimes are not just about eating – they are valuable social experiences where children learn about sharing, respect, and making nutritious choices. Our school encourages healthy eating both in the classroom and at home, fostering an environment where children develop a positive relationship with food.
We are always delighted to celebrate our students' birthdays and acknowledge these special moments. At the end of the school day, we sing ‘Happy Birthday’ to the birthday child, creating a joyful atmosphere. However, to maintain a safe and healthy environment:
The sharing of cakes or gifts is not permitted unless items are individually wrapped and can be taken home.
Any treats brought in must be nut-free and pork-free, ensuring they are suitable for all pupils.
The health and safety of our pupils are of utmost importance. Our school has a comprehensive system for managing food allergies:
The School Nurse maintains an up-to-date Food Allergy Register, which is regularly reviewed and shared with teachers via secure access on Google Drive.
Parents are required to inform the school clinic of any changes to their child’s medical or dietary needs. These details are collected at the time of enrolment through signed student information forms.
Teachers are vigilant during all school events, including National Day, International Day, The Bake Sale, and birthday celebrations, ensuring that children are not exposed to foods containing allergens.
Emergency procedures are in place for any allergic reactions, and all teachers are trained to respond promptly and appropriately.
We strongly believe that healthy eating is a shared responsibility between the school and parents. We encourage families to support our commitment to balanced nutrition by promoting healthy eating habits at home. Together, we can ensure that our pupils develop the knowledge and skills they need to make positive, healthy choices that will benefit them throughout their lives.
If you have any questions or concerns about your child’s health, nutrition, or dietary needs, please do not hesitate to contact our school clinic or your child’s class teacher.
